Initially four broad classes of ships for Forever Fleet are planned, as well as one class of air vehicle (in addition to general use of drones and other flying vessels, such as helicopters):
LIVING vessels are meant to function as floating villages of a few handful of people to thousands of citizens, with each acting as a city-state with its own culture, customs and local laws, with the uniting factor being adherence to the Forever Fleet Charter. Each LIVING vessel is to be as self-sustaining as possible, but the smaller they are the more they will depend on trade with other and often bigger vessels for specialty goods, and the infirmaries on many vessels will depend on tele-medicine and remote operations by da Vinci Surgical Systems and similar.
LIVING vessels will be the most numerous FF vessels, containing the greatest part of the population and producing almost all the resources in the Forever Fleet society. Probably many ships will anchor up near each other or directly beside each other, to create temporary multicultural metropolises at sea.
At first the LIVING vessels will be converted from existing container ships, and often stationed as embassies in other nation's harbors, but in a few years time the first purpose-built FF LIVING vessels should be available for maintaining sustainable and self-sustaining living forever on the high seas, with very close to zero impact on the environment.
Most FF LIVING vessels will see their engines exchanged with azimuth pods, to increase maneuverability at low speed and stability as well as survivability in rough conditions.
Nuclear power is expected to be used for many LIVING vessels because it is safe and has minimal environmental impact, but any vessel can choose its own power source as long as it does not significantly harm the environment, and as such solar, wind and wave powered vessels are expected.
Najland is a first example of a Forever Fleet LIVING vessel based on a container feeder ship.
RESEARCH vessels act as the universities of Forever Fleet, and will be very varied depending on their intended function, some simply being LIVING vessels with an academic culture to serve as education, science and knowledge hubs, while others may be dedicated research and exploration ships or massive floating servers for data analysis and AI research. Some research vessels may also act as communication hubs, or be submarines.
INDIVIDUAL vessels are simply privately owned vessels of any class, having an owner and often a hired crew, rather than a community leader as the most common Forever Fleet vessels. As opposed to all the other FF vessels, INDIVIDUAL vessels are not funded nor maintained by Forever Fleet, but sails under Forever Fleet flag and upholds the charter.
Some INDIVIDUAL vessels may be non-militarized high-safety submarines, bought by the super-rich as so-called "apocalypse insurance" and created in cooperation with Forever Fleet to join the nation. Such work helps finance the many other vessels in the Forever Fleet society for the less well off, and may eventually make this a standard Forever Fleet class. Many already planned INDIVIDUAL vessels will also function partly as research vessels.
FLYING vessels consist mainly of Airlanders, used mainly for transport of containers and people between ships, and between ships and land, usually with autonomous or remote controlled flight. May be configured for electric powered flight, or even solar at low speeds, but for now electro-fuels produced on the ships with minimal footprint are accepted.
